MAPJ has been working for the causes of justice and peace since 1992. We have sponsored educational programs and political action on national and international issues. These include living wages, racial justice, climate change, G.I. rights, Palestinian sovereignty, support for undocumented members of the Manhattan community, and opposition to American military and economic domination of peoples in Latin America and the Middle East.
MAPJ works in coalition with churches, community groups, and with faculty and students at Kansas State University. We will also help organize events with other Kansas communities.
RACIALLY JUST POLICING as a member of Manhattan/ Riley County Coalition for Equal Justice (with K-State Black Student Union, First Congregational United Church of Christ, and the Unitarian and Universalist Fellowship of Manhattan).
ANTI-WAR EDUCATION and activism focused on the Middle East.
G.I RIGHTS HOTLINE accepts calls from GIs and families in need of assistance regarding service regulation and options related to discharges for hardship/ dependency, psychological problems, AWOL/UA, recruiter problems medical discharges, and help with conscientious objection applications. The Hotline also offers help with free mental health evaluations through the Civilian Medical Resource Network.
CLIMATE CHANGE policy in support of Kansas Interfaith Action.
SISTER CITY relationship with El Papaturro, El Salvador, supporting grassroots organizing and providing scholarships to both high school and university students. MAPJ also provides support to Manhattan activists for visits to El Papaturro.
LOCAL FEMINIST and LGBT ADVOCACY in solidarity with FIRE (Feminists Igniting Resistance and Empowerment) and Flint Hills Human Rights Project.
Our members and supporters receive our newsletter by mail or email five times a year. Other communication is also conducted by e-mail such as event announcements and action alerts.
We do not share our mailing list with any third-party organizations.
